Wealth: $39.5 billion
Larry Ellison is the founder and CEO of Oracle. He has a big passion in sports especially yachting and tennis. He is financing BMW Oracle Racing team which won 2010 America’s Cup and is trying to win this year’s cup.
Ellison does not do many charitable actions that people heard of. However, it is rumored that he is one of 40 billionaires who signed Gates-Buffet Giving Pledge. Later he stated that he never intended to make his charitable actions public since he believed that charity was a personal matter.
Wealth: $41 billion
The chairman and CEO of LVMH, Bernard Arnault makes it to the top four this year with $41 billion of wealth. Once trying to set up his business in the United States when François Mitterrand was elected as President of France, he met failure and went back to France to set up his LVMH company in 1987.
Arnault acquired Carrefour, the largest supermarket retailer in France and second in the world, in 2007 through Blue Capital. His number one luxury-products company, LVMH, just bought Bulgari and 20% of Hermes shares in 2010. Arnault is also the owner of Phillips de Pury & Company auction house from 1999 to 2003.

Warren Buffet has been in investing business for all his life. It is safe to say that investing and making money are his true passion in life. Born as a son of businessman and politician, little Warren had made money by selling things around the neighborhood. His first investment was a pinball machine he bought with a friend for $25 and was a very successful one. He continually made successful investments throughout his life. Even now at 80 years old, he is still eager in working and investing.
Warren Buffet is the most successful legendary investor everybody has heard of. Right now Buffet is the CEO and primary shareholder of Berkshire Hathaway, a company which is also owned by his pal, the second richest man, Bill Gates. And it does not stop only on business matters. Together, Gates and Buffet have done some notable philanthropic works through Gates Foundation. Gates-Buffet Giving Pledge is their latest philanthropic move in which they pledged to donate at least 50% of their wealth to charity. The pledge also signed by Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Facebook.

With $56 billion of wealth, Bill Gates comes second in the richest men list. Bumped down by Carlos Slim in March 2010, he might have still been crowned the richest man if he had not donated $30 billion of his wealth for charity. Also known as the greatest philanthropist in the world, Gates has been touring three continents with his best friend Warren Buffet to convince people to give their fortunes for a greater purpose.
His main business company, Microsoft, was founded in 1975 with his Harvard mate Paul Allen in partnership with Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems. In 1976, Microsoft became independent and went solo until 1980 when it walked into a project with IBM. Gates stayed with the company he built from scratch as CEO until 2000 when he passed the stick to Steve Ballmer.
Since then, he focuses more on his philanthropic works with his wife Melinda whom together with him established Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He has been listed in most influential persons lists in various magazines and received honorary degrees from various universities around the world. The most prestigious one would be the honorary Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) title ordered by Queen Elizabeth II in 2005.

Carlos Slim The Richest Man in the World 2011. Entering into business world as young as a 12-year-old boy, Carlos Slim definitely climb his way steadily to the top. Carlos Slim claimed the first position of richest man in the world last year with $53.5 billion last year. This year, the Telecom mogul retains his position with steep increase on its wealth on $74 billion as a result of Mexican stock market growth and stronger Peso. His mining spin-off Grupo Carso conglomerate also one of the biggest contributor to the increase.
Starting his business from real estate, construction, and mining industry, Carlos Slim acquired seven companies of them in 1972 and bought 60% share of a printing company. He then established Grupo Carso as the umbrella of all his business in construction, food, industry, mining, retail, and tobacco.
The Wall Street Journal made Carlos Slim a cover story in 2007 when he overtook Warren Buffet’s position as second richest person in the world and rumored to had overtaken Gates’ no.1 position too. After that other reputable economic magazines such as Forbes and Fortune also featured him in their magazines as the new phenomenon who broke the tradition of richest man being an American for 16 years.
Carlos Slim is also known as a great philanthropist. Recently he opened a museum for his art collection where everyone can enter without paying any submission fee.
