Larry Ellison has been famous for his luxurious lifestyle including his Larry Ellison yacht. He has world’s largest yachts in his collection. The most famous one is Rising Sun, the second largest yacht in the world which was built especially by his request. It is designed by the late Jon Bannenberg. Rising Sun actually does not belong solely to Larry Ellison. He co-owns it with a Hollywood mogul, David Geffen.

Initially planned to be only 120 meters long, Larry Ellison yacht, Rising Sun, was finally built to be 138 meters long. The rumor had it that Ellison wanted Rising Sun to be longer than Paul Allen’s Octopus which is 128 meters long. Today, Rising Sun is the eight longest yachts, just one meter away from Al Salamah, a yacht belonged to Crown Prince Sultan of Saudi Arabia.

The luxurious yacht was built by Lürssen, a German company, in Bremen in 2004. It has 8,000 square meters living space and cost over $200 million to build. Not exactly much money for a billionaire like Ellison. Inside, there are 82 rooms, 16 suites for guests, a gymnasium, a spa, a movie theater, an indoor swimming pool, a basketball court which also doubles as a helicopter pad, and a space for a private submarine. From those details, you can imagine how luxurious the yacht is.

Still was not satisfied with this super luxurious yacht, Larry Ellison commissioned to build a new yacht in 2007 to be completed after 2010. It seems like Rising Sun, though as glorious as it is, brings several problems.

The biggest problem is that it is too big to dock at most of world’s marinas. This makes Rising Sun had to dock with container ships and oil takers which is definitely not cool. Meanwhile, let’s see will this new Larry Ellison yacht be more popular than the already famous Rising Sun?
