Lakshmi Mittal was born as Lakshmi Narayan Mittal alias Lakshmi Niwas Mittal on June 5, 1950. He was born into a Marwari business family in Rajasthan, India and moved to Calcutta. His father was a steel businessman called Nippon Denro Ispat. He has two brothers who also run the family steel business which has no connection with Mittal’s steel company.

Lakshmi Mittal started his own international steel business by buying a run-down plant in Indonesia. His steel business is now the biggest in the world with 50 million of tons shipment and more than $22 billion profits in 2004.

Today, he lives in London, England. He resides at 18-19 Kensington Palace Gardens which he purchased from Bernie Ecclestone for £57 million in 2004. He is also the owner of various elite and exclusive properties and estates in England, Scotland, and India such as Summer Palace in the Bishops Avenue, a penthouse apartment in Old Park Lane London, and a colonial bungalow in New Delhi, India.
