You may have not heard about Amancio Ortega before. However, most of you must have heard of Zara. Zara is a fashion brand from Spain which has worldwide fame and is ranked as one of top fashion brands in the world.
Amancio Ortega is the founder and chairman of this Spanish fashion brand Zara. Together with his wife, Rosalia Mera, he also founded Inditex Group. By today, he is the richest man in Spain according to Forbes magazine. He is also currently the second richest man in Europe and holds the seventh place in the world.
One of the reasons why there are not many people know about him is that he keeps a very low profile himself. There is barely any picture of him to find even in this age of internet and digital photography. He also never grants an interview with any media. The only reliable and complete source of information about him is only Inditex Group’s official website, which is not much. Because of his extra secretive behavior, media even calls him “the nightmare of publicist” since there is barely nothing he is willing to share to public.
There was only one photograph of him for decades and a new photograph came out in 1999. Finding him in real world is not easy either since he rarely appears in official and social events. This secretive behavior is even applied when his company invited Prince Felipe of Spain to its headquarter whom only was received by Ortega’s representative.

Down-to-earth is also another popular quality of him. He is famous for refusing to wear tie and prefers to wear jeans and T-shirt instead. He is also not very fond of working with bankers. This was pointed out by a banker who worked with him in preparing initial public offering of Inditex stock in 2001. Amancio Ortega, isn’t he an interesting man?
